A Democratic congressional intern was charged and arrested on Wednesday for allegedly posting personal information of several senators last week.
U.S. Capitol Police announced on Wednesday that they believe Jackson Cosko is responsible for stealing and releasing senators personal information as part of his opposition to Supreme Court nominee Brett Kavanaugh.
Congressional sources claim this Democratic operative formerly worked with the office of Sen. Dianne Feinstein, and most recently, Cosko worked for Rep. Sheila Jackson Lee.
On Wednesday, Cosko, 27, was charged with threats, witness tampering, unauthorized access of a government computer, identity theft, second-degree burglary, and unlawful entry.
Glenn Rushing, Jackson Lee’s chief of staff said the news is “unfortunate.” He added that the congresswoman’s office is “cooperating with law enforcement.”
According to Cosko’s LinkedIn page, he is a “Democratic Political Professional and Cybersecurity Graduate.” He worked in the Senate until May of this year.
Online records show Cosko previously worked with Sen. Maggie Hassan who had a substantial issue earlier this year with an intern who shouted “Mr. President, f— you!” at the Capitol Rotunda.
Last Thursday, personal information of Sens. Lindsey Graham, Mike Lee, and Orrin Hatch was posted on their Wikipedia pages as the Senate Judiciary Committee was questioning Kavanaugh over allegations of sexual misconduct.
Fox News reports that “intentional publication of the information was first caught by a Twitter bot that automatically tracks any changes made to Wikipedia entries from anyone located in the U.S. Congress and publicizes them on the social media site.”
The Twitter bot account deleted the tweets because they contained personal information.
The home addresses listed by the Democratic operative appeared to be correct, but the phone numbers were not all accurate.
Authorities are reportedly looking into the possibility that two other senators were doxxed.
