Former “Friends” actress Jennifer Aniston is used to being in the spotlight.
But a elaborate hoax that recently targeted Aniston put her in the spotlight way more than she ever bargained for.
According to TMZ, police were reportedly dispatched to Aniston’s home last Friday evening after being told that someone inside posed a danger to themselves.
Law enforcement officials received a call from a male who told the dispatcher his friend was “not doing well” and alluded to seeing the person on the other side, this per the TMZ report.
The caller then asked police to do a welfare check and provided Aniston’s residential address. Authorities arrived at Aniston’s just after midnight and were met by security that seemed confused by the police presence.
They spoke directly to Aniston and she assured them she was just fine and not in need of any assistance.
Aniston confirmed she did not have any self-harm intentions, at which point it became clear to police that she had been targeted as part of a swatting incident, according to TMZ.
Police updated their records to indicate the incident that had unfolded and noted that if they were phoned for another welfare check at that residence, they planned to touch base with security for updates before disturbing Aniston, according to TMZ.
The outlet also noted that Aniston is not the only victim to be targeted by swatting calls.
Other Hollywood stars that have been victimized include Chris Brown, Nicki Minaj, Rihanna, and Justin Bieber.
