ABC News’ popular talk show The View, a staple of daytime television, has gone without a conservative voice for too long.
That may be about to change. Meghan McCain, daughter of the late Sen. John McCain, was supposedly the conservative voice on the left-wing talk show but left the program earlier this year after feuding with the more liberal hosts.
Now, an unlikely candidate is on track to fill McCain’s void.
Alyssa Farah Griffin — best known as a communications director in Donald Trump’s White House from April to October 2020 — is finishing talks to join The View, according to a bombshell report by Variety.
Variety has heard from “multiple sources” that the network executives have already chosen Farah Griffin for the upcoming season.
Farah Griffin has yet to close the deal formally, two insiders told the magazine.
One insider expected the announcement to come within a matter of weeks, well before the T.V. show’s upcoming season in the fall. However, A spokesperson for the show neither confirmed nor denied the reports. The spokesperson told Variety, “We do not have a co-host announcement to make at this time. Stay tuned.”
Farah Griffin frequented the show during the most recent season, and she appears to have beaten stiff competition for the lucrative open seat, including competition from interim host Ana Navarro.
The View has employed a few semi-conservative co-hosts over the years, from Elisabeth Hasselbeck in the 2000s to McCain in the Trump era. The program has become a routine campaign stop for figures of both parties, including Donald Trump Jr. in 2019.
Still, the program has always had a notoriously liberal bias. Earlier this month, it became embroiled in a defamation dispute with Turning Point USA, a conservative nonprofit.
Predictably, some liberals have reacted negatively to the news about Farah Griffin’s arrival.
The comedian Wanda Sykes claimed to have rejected an invitation to appear on the show after hearing the network’s plans for Farah Griffin, The Daily Beast reported.
One fan added on Twitter, “If she is hired I’m out all over again! Do the producers not see how excited we all were when Meghan left?”
This is who ABC has tapped to play the conservative on The View. Imagine if they hired someone willing to make case for truly conservative, counter cultural positions. Someone like @conservmillen or @Advo_Katy—it would be riveting. Which is why they won’t. https://t.co/lth9sx6Pc7

Some conservatives have also criticized the network’s decision. Farah Griffin spoke fondly of her time in the White House until the Capitol riot. Then, she went on CNN to encourage Trump to resign.
For that reason, some conservatives view her as a poor representation of their beliefs.
“You can’t represent conservatives on TV if you don’t support Trump,” one pundit wrote on Twitter. “Alyssa Farah Griffin is reportedly joining The View as the new ‘conservative’ co-host. Unfortunately, she is a raging never-Trumper who believes the party needs to run away from the former President.”
