Jim Acosta has some follow-up comments on the Trump administration — but it’ll cost you to read them.
The controversial Chief White House Correspondent for CNN, who has frequently clashed with President Donald Trump and members of his administration, has a book coming out June 11.
He’s calling it “The Enemy of the People,” Trump’s inflammatory insult for the cable network, and Acosta is prepared to cash in big time.
“Simply put, I am writing this book to share what I’ve experienced covering President Trump during his first two years in office,” Acosta said in a statement Thursday through HarperCollins Publishers.
“This sobering, bewildering and sometimes frightening experience has made it absolutely clear that this is a dangerous time to tell the truth in America. The president and his team, not to mention some of his supporters, have attempted to silence the press in ways we have never seen before,” Acosta said without presenting evidence.
“As just about everybody has seen, I have witnessed this firsthand.”
Acosta has been heavily criticized by both the White House and his fellow journalists for his eagerness to become the news, instead of reporting it.
For example, The Atlantic published an article last year titled, “Jim Acosta’s Dangerous Brand of Performance Journalism,” detailing how Acosta had “lost the fight” against President Donald Trump.
Acosta “blurs the line between reporting and performance, between work and war, at a time when journalists have a greater obligation than ever to demonstrate that what they do is real, and matters—and is not just part of the passing show,” The Atlantic’s Todd S. Purdum wrote.
The Washington Post’s Bob Woodward called Acosta “emotionally unhinged” and said he represented everything wrong about journalism.
All Acosta seemed to hear was, “Ka-Ching!”
So how much cash is Acosta set to rake in from his fiery confrontations with the executive branch? Financial terms for the book weren’t disclosed… but it’s going to be a ton.
Acosta was represented by Washington attorney Robert Barnett, whose clients have ranged from former President Barack Obama to Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell.
According to HarperCollins, Acosta will describe his nasty confrontations with Trump and White House officials such as Press Secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders and senior adviser Stephen Miller.
HarperCollins spokeswoman Tina Andreadis said Acosta has been working on the book for more than a year, and wrote it himself. Asked how he managed to do it, Andreadis said, “He’s been writing on planes, trains … anywhere he has some free time.”
