The month of May continues to get worse for CNN. This week, more terrible ratings news came in — and it has network executives panicking. The former cable news giant has been struggling to keep their viewership, and advertisers are likely to start cutting ties.
Since President Donald Trump labeled them “fake news” Americans have refused to tune into the liberal network for their daily news coverage, and their ratings have plummeted as a result.
As CNN is struggling, though, Fox News has again come out on top with a growth in their prime-time viewership for the month of May.
The Horn News reported earlier in May that “CNN’s Jake Tapper averaged over a million total viewers, and roughly 300,000 age demographic viewers in 2017 — but this year, his numbers continue to plummet.”
Now the network as a whole is seeing major declines. The liberal network is down a whopping 25 percent among viewers ages 25-54.
In the first week of May, CNN averaged just 859,000 viewers hourly and 286,000 key demographic viewers. That calculated out to a 23 percent decline in total hourly viewers and 29 percent decline in demographic viewers.
Critics had doubt that Fox News would be able to sustain their high ratings after losing the networks’ biggest stars, its founder, and chief executive. Those critics have been proven wrong.
According to Forbes,”In May, prime-time viewership for the cable news networks was down overall except for Fox News, which grew 6% from the same period last year.”
Following the departure of Bill O’Reilly, Megyn Kelly, and Roger Ailes, the network adapted to the massive change and brought on new icons. Forbes credits stars Tucker Carlson, Sean Hannity, and Laura Ingraham for Fox News’ continued success.
Carlson and Ingraham sit on the top five highest-rated show list in cable news. The liberal hosts at CNN, at the bottom of the ratings, should take note that Americans value fairness — not liberal spin.
Along with CNN, MSNBC saw a significant decline in viewership with a 21 percent drop in May.
CNN has a reputation for being anti-Trump, and Americans increasingly do not want that type of reporting. The scandals that CNN creates has awarded them the “fake news” label — and now their ratings are seeing the repercussions.
