CNN legal analyst Areva Martin used an old liberal argument against Fox Nation host David Webb on Tuesday.
When in doubt, blame “white privilege” and hide behind identity politics.
But there’s only one problem: Webb is a black man.
Martin was caught with her tail between her legs. Now she’s under serious fire from critics across the nation.
The exchange happened as Webb and Martin were locked into an argument that Martin was losing. So Martin turned the debate toward the assumption that the Sirius XM radio host had “white privilege” and couldn’t possibly understand.
Martin, looking for the easy way out of debate, dismissed Webb saying: “David, by virtue of being a white male you have white privilege…”
“Areva,” Webb interrupted. “I hate to break it to you, but you should’ve been better prepped. I’m black.”
Ouch.
After Areva was caught, she apologized to Webb, throwing her employees under the bus for the enormous gaffe. “My research team gave me the wrong information,” she said.
Webb appeared on Fox and Friends to talk about the exchange.
“Being on conservative talk station, ‘Well, I must’ve been white,’ was in her head,” Webb said.
During the segment, the conversation also addressed the hypocrisy of the radicalized left. The radio host then asked, what would it look like if a conservative had said this to a liberal.
“It would be calls for firing,” Webb said. “There would be pressure for advertisers. The machine on the let would’ve gone into full-blown action. They would’ve demanded that I be thrown off Fox, that I be thrown off Sirius XM Patriot, that I be out of the media. And that’s a problem.”
