Former NBC “Meet the Press” anchor Chuck Todd delivered scathing criticism of former President Joe Biden during a recent podcast appearance, blasting the Democratic leader as a “craven political animal” who prioritized his ambition for power over his family’s well-being for his entire career.
It was a remarkable break for Todd, who has been criticized for years on his liberal bias.
Speaking on Lincoln Project co-founder Steve Schmidt’s “The Warning” podcast, Todd took aim at Biden’s long-cultivated image as a devoted family man and admitted that it was totally manufactured.
“I have to tell you something about Joe Biden. There’s this mythology about Joe Biden, that the man cared so much, it’s all bullsh*t,” Todd said. “This man supposedly cared so much about his family that he commuted every day. Guess what? This man cared so much about his political career that he commuted every day.”
Todd, who left NBC News in January after nearly two decades at the network, specifically criticized Biden’s decision to run for president in 2020 when multiple close family members were struggling with addiction issues.
“I completely got so angry at Joe Biden, the man, when I read the transcript of the Hunter Biden trial, and when I realized that not one, not two, but three Biden children, and I count Beau’s widow, were all dealing with drug problems in 2018,” Todd pointed out.
“And Joe Biden said, ‘Now’s a perfect time to run for president, because who cares about our family?'”
He said that Biden’s political ambitions always outweighed family considerations throughout his entire career.
“He created this myth, he did it for 40 years, God bless him, that he was this incredible family man, and instead, what he really was, was a craven political animal that was desperate, that considered a run for president every four years that he was eligible,” Todd continued.
This isn’t Todd’s first criticism of the former president since breaking with NBC News. In December, he slammed Biden’s decision to pardon his son Hunter before leaving office, calling it “damaging” to the country.
“You have the leading Democrat in America and the leading Republican in America both agreeing on one thing: the Justice Department has been politicized. That is absolutely – that is long-term damaging,” Todd said at the time.
Todd also argued that the Democratic Party needs generational change in its aging leadership, suggesting that longtime elderly figures like Biden and Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer should step aside.
“Joe Biden never should have been there in the first place, right? Number one, he shouldn’t have run for president,” Todd said about Biden’s leadership of the Democratic Party.
