According to Schumer, there’s nothing to be concerned over. He said he suffered the forehead-covering wound after a late-night encounter with an open door.
“Closet door was open late at night. It met my forehead,” Schumer told reporters yesterday.
Despite the wound, Schumer as he was able to continue his day-to-day business, including being front and center for King Charles’ appearance yesterday.
Schumer called it a “great honor” to welcome “his majesty” to the US Capitol Building.
“It has been thirty-five years since a British monarch addressed the elected representatives of the American people — the world has changed dramatically, but in many ways, the same tests remain before us,” Schumer said.
“The visit of King Charles III should serve as a reminder to the President of the United States and to every elected official in this country: friends and allies matter,” he added.
Of years, concern surrounding Schumer’s health have followed the New York Democrat after he’s suffered numerous other health incidents over the past decade.
He was briefly hospitalized last June and treated for dehydration after becoming lightheaded while working out on a stationary bike in the Senate gym.
“Leader Schumer was at the Senate gym this morning and got lightheaded. Out of an abundance of caution, he went to the hospital to be treated for dehydration and is now back at work in the Capitol,” a spokesperson for Schumer said in a statement at the time.
“He wants to remind everyone to drink some water and stay out of the heat,” his office also said.
Prior to last year’s hospitalization, NBC News reporter Frank Thorp V noted that the elderly Schumer had just attended a press conference in the U.S. Capitol but did not take any questions.
Schumer was also diagnosed with pneumonia in 2016 and tested positive for COVID-19 in 2022.
However, some internet users expressed concern about the injury, and called for him and other older lawmakers to exit office.
“Get all of these dinosaurs out of government,” one X user wrote.
Another similarly added, “Oh come the f— on bruh I dont want my government to be a retirement home get these old folks outta here.”
