Trump Derangement Syndrome has taken over the Democratic Party. On Monday, House Speaker Nancy Pelosi joined Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer and other top Democrats to take the political insanity to the next level.
Heading into the 2018 mid-term elections, President Donald Trump’s allies warned that if Democrats were allowed to retake control of Congress they’d flood the court system with pointless investigations.
Schumer’s latest FBI request proved that prediction was completely true.
Top Democrats wrote a formal letter demanding the FBI investigate a Trump campaign donor — because six years ago she owned a Florida massage parlor that became a brothel after she sold it.
In a letter to the FBI, Democrats on the House and Senate judiciary and intelligence panels wrote that Li “Cindy” Yang raises “serious counterintelligence concerns” after she posed for a selfie with Trump during a Super Bowl party.
Experts say the selfie is harmless, and far from evidence of any kind of “Chinagate.” Schumer and his allies are simply playing political theater — at the expense of taxpayers.
The Democrats asked the FBI to investigate whether authorities were previously aware of Yang’s activities, to what extent she has interacted with Trump and how she was invited to a Super Bowl party at his West Palm Beach country club, among other matters. Signing on to the letter were House Judiciary Committee Chairman Jerrold Nadler, D-N.Y., House intelligence committee chairman Adam Schiff, D-Calif., and Sens. Mark Warner of Virginia and Dianne Feinstein of California, the top Democrats on the Senate intelligence and Judiciary panels.
Pelosi and Schumer endorsed the request for an investigation in a joint statement, saying “the facts in this situation are very concerning.”
An FBI spokesperson said the agency has no comment on the letter.
The Miami Herald last week published a photo of Yang with Trump at the Super Bowl party. They also reported that up to 2013, Yang owned the spa where New England Patriots owner Robert Kraft was charged six years later with soliciting prostitution. Kraft was charged in late February and has pleaded not guilty.
Yang wasn’t charged in a multiagency anti-human-trafficking operation that resulted in 25 arrests, including Kraft’s, and shut down 10 Asian day spas in South Florida last month.
None of the spas are registered to Yang or her family.
The FBI request comes as House Democrats have launched investigations into all aspects of Trump’s White House, businesses and foreign financial dealings.
Michelle Merson, Yang’s attorney, told ABC News that her client is living through a “nightmare” after she was perceived as linked to the alleged prostitution or as a national security “threat” because of the questions of political access peddling – which, Merson said, is “far from the truth.”
Yang is a first-generation immigrant and a member of the Asian-American Republicans of Florida Committee and a devoted philanthropist.
“Mrs. Yang loves this country,” Merson told ABC News. “She has lived a very quiet life, doing good things for herself, her family and her community.”
