Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer, D-N.Y., was captured on video celebrating the Chinese national anthem and waving the communist flag during a controversial event in Manhattan this weekend.
Top state Democrats were seen waving Chinese communist flags while their authoritarian national anthem played, happily celebrating the Chinese New Year alongside Beijing’s controversial local consul-general.
Critics have long accused American Democratic leaders of having a cozy relationship with the communist party in China.
Governor Kathy Hochul, Schumer, New York Mayor Eric Adams, and other Democratic legislators sat with Chinese Consul-General Huang Ping – who openly denies the atrocities against Uighurs and Tibetans committed by his authoritarian government.
Hundreds of political exiles in New York have report harassment and intimidation campaigns directed by Chinese operatives to silence dissent against Xi’s dictatorship on free American soil.
Yet Hochul was seen happily marching in a parade led by the consul-general, at one point helping him light fireworks.
At the rally’s end, organizers blared the Chinese national anthem, “March of the Volunteers,” through loudspeakers aimed at pedestrians on American streets.
The video spotlighted this friendly relationship Schumer and various Democratic leaders have with propagandists for Xi Jinping’s repressive regime.
Schumer is seen on camera at one point putting his hand over his heart at the beginning of the song. Someone in the crowd tried to hand Hochul an American and Chinese flag, but she declined.
Instead, Schumer takes them and happily waves the communist government’s flag.
The footage quickly went viral.
