Former First Daughter Chelsea Clinton is joining Vice President Kamala Harris’ campaign as a surrogate — and Hillary Clinton’s daughter is already angling for a job in the potential Harris administration.
Chelsea wants to be the U.S. Ambassador to either the United Kingdom or France, according to a new report.
“Chelsea really wants to be the ambassador to the UK,” a source reportedly told The New York Post. “There’s a reason why Bill and Hillary came out in the first five minutes to support Kamala’s presidential bid– they were currying favor.”
In fact, the Clinton family has been “working on this idea for a long time.”
If she can’t land the gig in the United Kingdom, Chelsea — who currently works as a chairwoman in the Clinton Foundation — is reportedly willing to settle for the French ambassadorship.
The ambassadorship to the United Kingdom is a coveted job and is usually given as a reward to top Democratic megadonors. Chelsea’s ambitions are considered “fantasy land” by insiders.
“I can well imagine that the UK ambassadorship is an aspiration for Chelsea, although she is a bit junior still — and London usually goes to a massive donor or fundraiser,” a British embassy official told The Post.
The current ambassador in the United Kingdom is Jane Harrley, 74, who previously served as the U.S. ambassador in France under former President Barack Obama. Hartley worked as a donor “bundler” for the 2020 Biden campaign — someone who solicited checks from wealthy donors on behalf of the campaign.
According to 2022 reports, Hartley was nominated by Biden after former New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg turned down the job.
Chelsea previously lived in the United Kingdom between 2001 and 2003, where she attended Oxford University to earn her master’s degree in international relations.
“She is 44 and has a long-held ambition for this. It’s important for her to have her own legacy,” the source told The Post.
“She has always wanted to spend more time abroad, much like [Australian ambassador] Caroline Kennedy.”
A spokesman for Chelsea Clinton denied the report that she is seeking a high profile ambassadorship in exchange for being a Harris campaign surrogate.
“There is no truth here. Chelsea is proud to support Vice President Harris and is committed to doing everything she can to ensure she is elected in November,” the Clinton spokesman told The Post.
