CBS News star Nina Kapur, 26, died suddenly over the weekend following a moped crash in New York City.
Police reported that Kapur, a local New York-based reporter, was riding as a passenger on a Revel, an electric scooter operated by a ride-share start-up, when the accident occurred.
According to their report, the driver of the moped suddenly swerved and both riders were thrown from the vehicle. The driver sustained minor injuries.
Neither were wearing helmets at the time.
“Revels only go up to 30 miles per hour and riding on highways and major bridges is not allowed, according to Revel’s website. Helmets, which the company says are cleaned ‘with COVID-19-effective disinfectants,’ are provided in the trunk of the moped,” MSN reported.
Authorities say the investigation in the Brooklyn accident remains ongoing.
“We are heartbroken here at CBS2 as a member of our news family has passed away,” a statement by CBS2 News said. “Our thoughts and prayers are with Nina’s family. She will be missed.”
On social media, Kapur’s colleagues mourned the heartbreaking loss.

Nina was perfect. So beautiful. So vibrant. She inspired me by being an excellent journalist and by making big moves at such a young age. She didn’t take no for an answer and lived life to the fullest. pic.twitter.com/ZyZMVQKLlK
