“The Talk” is coming to an end after a 15-season run on CBS. The network dropped the bombshell announcement on Friday, revealing that the show will take its final bow on Dec. 15.
Created by actor Sara Gilbert, “The Talk” hit the airwaves in 2010 with a unique concept: a group of women from diverse backgrounds gathering to discuss the hottest topics and current events. Gilbert drew inspiration from her own circle of “mom friends” who would regularly meet up to chat and share their experiences.
The show’s original lineup featured Gilbert, Sharon Osbourne, Julie Chen, Leah Remini, and Holly Robinson Peete, with Marissa Jaret Winokur serving as a roving reporter. However, the hosting lineup underwent significant changes after the first season, with Winokur’s position being eliminated and Peete and Robinson being replaced by Sheryl Underwood and Aisha Tyler.
Over the years, “The Talk” experienced several hosting shake-ups. In 2018, Chen departed following the firing of her husband, then-CBS Corp. boss Les Moonves, amid sexual misconduct allegations. Gilbert also stepped down from her on-camera role in 2019 but remains an executive producer. Osbourne’s exit in 2021 made headlines after a heated on-air discussion about racism with Underwood.
Today, Underwood is the sole remaining host from the show’s early days, joined by Natalie Morales, Amanda Kloots, Jerry O’Connell, and Akbar Gbajabiamila. Despite the challenges of hosting and producing a year-round talk show, “The Talk” has been an industry success, earning 11 Daytime Emmy Awards along the way.
As the show gears up for its 14th season finale in June and prepares for its 15th and final season in the fall, CBS executives Amy Reisenbach and David Stapf expressed their gratitude to the hosts, producers, and crew.
