One of Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt’s children has taken a stunning step to distance herself from her famous father. On her 18th birthday, Shiloh Jolie-Pitt officially filed to drop her father’s last name.
Court records show Shiloh submitted a petition in Los Angeles on May 27th to change her full name to Shiloh Nouvel Jolie, removing the “Pitt” she had shared with her actor dad since birth.
The move makes Shiloh, who voiced a character in the 2016 film “Kung Fu Panda 3,” the first of Jolie and Pitt’s six children to legally alter their moniker.
However, some of her siblings had already stopped publicly using the “Pitt” surname in recent years as well.
Shiloh’s name change comes over seven years after her celebrity parents initiated divorce proceedings in September 2016.
While Jolie officially filed to end her two-year marriage to Pitt, the divorce resolution has remained ongoing in the courts.
The former couple has traded lawsuits stemming from disputes over their joint business ventures and assets like their French winery and other properties. Their divorce decree has still not been finalized.
Shiloh’s name change at the milestone age of 18 represents a statement in the Jolie-Pitt family drama that has unfolded through most of her life so far. As Shiloh enters adulthood, she appears intent on establishing an identity independent of her father.
