Today’s tense Senate confirmation hearing for President Donald Trump’s nominee for the head of Health and Human Services department, Robert F. Kennedy, Jr., was filled with plenty of fireworks as lawmakers from both sides of the aisle grilled RFK, Jr. on everything from COVID-19, vaccines, to the rising cost of healthcare in the United States.
But it was a move made by Vermont Sen. Bernie Sanders that surprised everyone the most.
During today’s hearing, Sanders shocked hearing attendees by announcing he supports the Make America Healthy Again (MAHA) movement — essentially aligning with just about everything RFK, Jr. has promised he will do should he fill the role.
“I very much like that slogan that you coined, Make America Healthy Again,” the Vermont independent told RFK Jr. “And I strongly agree with that.”
“Despite spending … two or three times as much per capita in health care as other nations, we have 85 million people who are uninsured, underinsured, we have all kinds of chronic illnesses,” Sanders added.

Disrupting the food industry, particularly in the use of dangerous chemicals and dyes, is a focal point of RFK, Jr.s “Make America Healthy Again” plan.
It’s not the first time that Sanders has aligned with an anti-establishment call for sweeping changes within the food industry.
During an interview with Business Insider, Sanders, who is at times critical of RFK, Jr.’s stances on healthcare, did advocate and support changes to the food industry to target chronic disease.

Regardless of the outcome of today’s confirmation hearing, RFK, Jr.’s “Make America Healthy Again” initiative has already made waves in the federal ranks in D.C.
Earlier this month, the FDA announced it will ban Red No. 3 from food and drugs, a move that aligns with years of warnings from RFK, Jr. about artificial food dyes.
JUST IN: The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has banned the use of Red Dye No. 3, which is used in thousands of food products and is made from petroleum.
Red Dye No. 3 has been linked to cancer in animals. The dye give beverages and foods a bright red cherry color.

It was RFK, Jr.’s first big win since being announced as the Health Secretary nominee.
“This is a pivotal moment in history,” Zen Honeycutt, founding executive director of the medical freedom and health advocacy nonprofit, Moms Across America, told the Daily Caller News Foundation. “Look how many people are coming to DC. A year ago, people were like the government was completely bought out and felt hopeless. Most people have had a crisis of trust in the government [during former President Biden’s term].vowed to lead efforts to regulate controversial food additives and ingredients currently labeled as “generally regarded as safe.”
Ahead of today’s hearing, busloads of supporters for RFK, Jr. lined Washington D.C. and packed the halls of the Capitol to support his confirmation.

RFK, Jr.’s supporters, many of who are calling their senators or visiting their offices in person to lobby on his behalf, view his nomination as a once in a lifetime opportunity to reverse Americans’ worsening health outcomes.
“He’s [Kennedy] bridging the divide,” Honeycutt, a prominent MAHA advocate who traveled to Washington to support Kennedy, said. “He’s bringing people together.”
This is something even Bernie Sanders can get behind.
However, RFK Jr is still being met with opposition within the establishment politician ranks and those that align with Big Pharma’s interests.
According to the Daily Caller, former Vice President Mike Pence’s-aligned group Advancing American Freedom is running ads targeting Kennedy for his longtime support for abortion rights while Democratic Party-affiliated groups — Protect Our Care, Committee to Protect Health Care and 314 Action — are highlighting Kennedy’s past comments on vaccines and labeling the nominee as a threat to public health.
