Donald Trump is living rent-free in Barack Obama’s head — and it’s costing him at home.
Former President Barack Obama confessed in a candid New Yorker interview that his marriage to Michelle is on the rocks.
Obama said his house is constantly filled with “genuine tension” since President Donald Trump’s return to the White House. His return to politics is against his wife’s wishes and it has put their marriage on shaky ground.
“She wants to see her husband easing up and spending more time with her, enjoying what remains of our lives,” Obama said of Michelle. “It does create a genuine tension in our household, and it frustrates her.”
Obama said the American people were demanding he return to politics.
“I’m more forgiving of it, in the sense that I understand why people feel that way,” he said.
The former president acknowledged Trump’s presidency has dragged him back into the fray “more than I would have preferred.”
“No other ex-president was the main surrogate for the party for four election cycles after they left office,” he said. “The fact that people want me to be doing more is a good sign.”
Obama drew the line at becoming a full-time anti-Trump “commentator.”
“For me to function like Jon Stewart, even once a week, just going off, just ripping what was happening — which, by the way, I’m glad Jon’s doing it — then I’m not a political leader, I’m a commentator,” he said.
Earlier this year, Obama raised eyebrows when he warned the that “Michelle would divorce me” even if he returned to politics again.
Michelle has been increasingly absent from public events. She has skipped a string of high-profile public events over the last year, leaving Barack to appear alone.
Obama has shown no signs of stepping back from the political spotlight. Most recently he threw his weight behind a failed Virginia redistricting attempt that unconstitutionally tried to flip congressional seats to Democrats, and he has been appearing alongside New York City mayoral candidate Zohran Mamdani as the party works to rebuild ahead of the midterms.
Michelle has been “through a lot” — and apparently so has the Obama marriage.
