Backlash — Thousands cancel Netflix after “pedophilia movie”

The number one hashtag on social media giant Twitter on Monday: #CancelNetflix.

Thousands of users have circulated the calls for action against the streaming giant over the controversial film, “Cuties,” the company released on Wednesday.

Last year, a petition surfaced to have the movie pulled from the streaming service after a controversial poster and description sexualized the 11-year-old girls starring in the film.

The movie is about Ami, an 11-year-old Senegalese girl living in Paris. When her strict Muslim home life begins to fall apart after her father begins a polygamist marriage, Ami joins a group of girls in her class who dance provocatively, steal, and wear tight clothes and high heels.

The streaming service apologized and took down the poster in August — but released the movie this week anyway.

Incredibly, the liberal critics at The New Yorker initially dismissed the outrage as being limited to “scandal-mongers on the right.” The magazine deleted their tweet after the influential Internet Movie Database (IMDB.com) classified the movie as graphic and warned it had a number of sexual scenes involving young girls.

However, their film critic still gave the movie a glowing review.

Across social media, however, Americans from both sides of the political aisle joined together to demand Netflix either remove the movie or they would cancel their monthly Netflix subscriptions.

I don't care about your political stance. Left or right, most can agree that pedophilia isn't okay. #CancelNetflix pic.twitter.com/cK11NmyWNM

Even House Speaker Nancy Pelosi’s daughter, Christine Pelosi — who has worked to protect children from sexual assault in the past — said the film should be removed immediately.

Hi @netflix, from a customer and former ADA in SFDA’a Child Abuse-Sexual Assault Unit: “Cuties” hypersexualizes girls my daughter’s age no doubt to the delight of pedophiles like the ones I prosecuted. Cancel this, apologize, work with experts to heal your harm. #CancelNetflix

EDITORS NOTE: In the name of human decency, we decided not to share the controversial clip from the movie that has caused the universal outrage. Although clips are available online, The Horn News editorial team strongly recommends against watching it.
