Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, D-N.Y., took her political sideshow on the road — and what she said had American voters across the country up in arms.
The New York Democrat mocked so-called “flyover states” in a video in which her voice was heard as she rode through America’s heartland. She called the Electoral College a “racist scam.”
What she wasn’t expecting was the response.

“Alright everyone it’s been a minute,” she said. “We’re coming to you live from the electoral college. Many votes here, as you can see. A very efficient way to choose the leadership of the country.”
“I mean, I can’t think of any other way, can you?” she asked rhetorically.
Ocasio-Cortez’ slight at rural America was intended to rile up her elitest base. She’s clearly still bitter about the 2016 election, even though it was nearly three years ago.
Ocasio-Cortez’ words are proof that Democrats haven’t learned much since that brutal loss.
Whether she likes it or not, the votes coming from outside New York City still matter. Just ask Michigan and Wisconsin, whose swings to the red helped deliver the White House to President Donald Trump. The constitution was written to intentionally protect and empower these voices.

The rest of the country is NOT New York — and Americans know it, so they let AOC have it on social media.
“It’s what made Americans equal,” one Twitter user wrote.
Electoral College is in the Constitution to ensure small, rural states had same power as the big urban ones. Used to teach that in civics class. It's what made Americans equal. Of course, AOC sees rural U.S. as "unwashed masses" & wants to take our power. No thanks.

“I thought @AOC was for the small and forgotten?” another Twitter user asked.
I thought @AOC was for the small and forgotten? That’s what the electoral college is all about. Giving everyone a say big or small.

And that was just the beginning —
@AOC for more than 200 years, the electoral college has helped keep America out of the hands of radicals…both from the right and the left….so why change it if it has worked up till now?

The Constitution is super interesting. You should probably read it.

So what AOC is really saying is the middle of America doesn’t deserve for their voices to count in our democratic system. Only big cities In her opinion should have a vote that counts. Cities coincidentally run into the ground by Democrats with bad liberal policies.— asjah8 (@asjah8) August 21, 2019
