Dr. Anthony Fauci resigned from his position as Chief Medical Advisor to the President of United States on Dec. 2022.
After exactly seven months of retirement, Fauci has a new job at the University of Georgetown.
“Starting July 1, Fauci will serve as a Distinguished University Professor in the School of Medicine’s Department of Medicine in the Division of Infectious Diseases, an academic division that provides clinical care, conducts research and trains future physicians in infectious diseases. He will also hold an additional appointment in the university’s McCourt School of Public Policy,” Georgetown University announced in a press release.
Fauci served under seven presidents but gained the ire of many conservatives during the COVID-19 pandemic as head of the White House Coronavirus Task Force under former President Donald Trump.
Despite the criticism, Trump awarded Fauci and his team the Presidential Commendation Award on January 19, 2021, just one day before leaving office.
But some critics mocked the news of Fauci’s new job. Fox News star Laura Ingraham on Tuesday said he is “an expert at being wrong and getting paid top dollar for doing it.”
The University president showered the medical expert with praise.
“We are deeply honored to welcome Dr. Anthony S. Fauci, a dedicated public servant, humanitarian and visionary global health leader, to Georgetown,” Georgetown President John J. DeGioia said in a statement.
“Dr. Fauci has embodied the Jesuit value of being in service to others throughout his career, and we are grateful to have his expertise, strong leadership and commitment to guiding the next generation of leaders to meet the pressing issues of our time,” Degioia said.
