Nicole Kidman was honored with the AFI Life Achievement Award at a ceremony held at the Dolby Theatre in Hollywood. The event celebrated her impressive 40-year career, which includes memorable roles in films like “Moulin Rouge,” “Eyes Wide Shut,” and her Oscar-winning performance in “The Hours.”
The night was filled with laughter and heartfelt tributes from Kidman’s colleagues and friends. Screen stalwart Morgan Freeman said that Kidman “makes movies better.”
Kidman’s husband, singer Keith Urban, shared a touching story about how she supported him through his substance abuse problems early in their marriage. He credited her love and strength for helping him overcome his challenges.
Throughout the evening, Kidman was visibly moved by the outpouring of love and respect from her peers. She thanked all the directors she has worked with, expressing gratitude for the opportunity to portray unconventional women in her films and television projects.
The AFI Life Achievement Award, first given out in 1973, has been awarded to many legendary figures in the entertainment industry, including Orson Welles, Bette Davis, and Tom Hanks. Kidman is the first Australian to receive this prestigious honor.
Kidman’s career began as a teenager in Australia, and her role in the 1989 thriller “Dead Calm” brought her to the attention of Hollywood.
She went on to star in numerous successful films, including “Days of Thunder,” “Far and Away,” and “Moulin Rouge,” which was frequently cited as a favorite by those honoring her at the ceremony.
The event, originally scheduled for June 2023, was delayed due to Hollywood strikes. It will be aired on TNT on June 17.
