Alleged serial killer kept “blueprints” say cops

Chilling new details emerged Thursday about the alleged meticulous planning by Rex Heuermann, the New York architect accused of murdering numerous women and leaving their bodies along the Long Island coastline.

Prosecutors revealed that among the evidence against Heuermann is a file recovered from his home computer that appears to have served as a “blueprint” documenting his suspected serial killings over many years.

The 60-year-old Heuermann faces two additional murder charges in the deaths of Jessica Taylor, who disappeared in 2003, and Sandra Costilla, killed three decades ago in 1993. He had previously been charged with four other killings in the infamous “Gilgo Beach” string of homicides.

The all-caps document found on Heuermann’s computer contained checklists of tasks to complete before, during and after the alleged killings, as well as notes on “practical lessons” for future crimes, according to prosecutors.

Entries included reminders to clean victims’ bodies, destroy evidence, plan alibis, and tactics like using heavier rope to maximize “play time” – grisly details that could connect Heuermann to other unsolved murders.

One section titled “body prep” allegedly included a note to “remove head and hands,” potentially linking him to the 2000 disappearance of Valerie Mack, whose partial remains were found alongside Taylor’s.

While not charged in Mack’s case yet, prosecutors stated it was “fair to say” Heuermann is considered a suspect in her death based on the file’s contents.

The new charges brought the number of alleged victims tied to Heuermann to six, after he was initially accused last July in the killings of Megan Waterman, Melissa Barthelemy, Amber Costello and Maureen Brainard-Barnes.

Prosecutors highlighted forensic evidence like DNA analysis of hair samples matching Heuermann to the newly accused victims Taylor and Costilla. The allegations span from 1993 to 2010 based on the disappearance dates.

While pleading not guilty, Heuermann’s lawyer acknowledged the latest charges put his client in a “bad place” as the sweeping investigation presses on into the potential trail of victims left by the accused serial killer over decades.

Authorities have spent over a decade probing the “Gilgo Four” homicides after the grisly discoveries of numerous remains strewn along a Long Island beach highway beginning in 2010.

If the charges are substantiated, the “blueprint” file suggests the suspect employed a shockingly calculated approach to executing multiple killings over a prolonged period – a critical piece of evidence as prosecutors aim to connect Heuermann to the long-unsolved mysteries.
