Bush running against Trump!?

Former President Donald Trump may be headed for a battle with the Bush family for control of the Republican Party.

But he won’t be renewing his rivalry with any of the familiar faces in the Bush family…

Reports say he could be clashing with a rather unfamiliar figure: George P. Bush, son of ex-Florida Gov. Jeb Bush.

The Texas Tribune reports that George P. Bush is preparing to kickoff a primary challenge for the Attorney General seat in Texas against incumbent Ken Paxton — a staunch Trump loyalist.

Pundits anticipate that the challenge could bring Trump — who has proven to be a kingmaker post-2020 — into the race where his voice would likely influence the vote.

It was his bold, brash style of populism that ran establishment Republicans like Jeb Bush out of the primary race in 2016, afterall.

But there’s a small twist.

George P. Bush, unlike his father, has no animosity toward Trump.

In fact, he supported him!

It has been reported that George P. Bush in 2016 was a major fan of Trump and even publicly backed him despite his father running for the presidency as well.

According to his own words, he says there was no rift created between him and the Trump family.

“I didn’t create controversy,” George P. Bush reportedly said. “My family understands my position.” Neither the late George H.W. Bush, nor George W. Bush, endorsed Trump.

And Trump, on the other hand, has acknowledged George P. Bush for his support.

“I like him,” Trump once purportedly said. “He’s going far. He’s going places.”

2020 was no different — as the “outcast” Bush of the family threw his support behind Trump once again.

“I endorsed President Trump in the 2016 election cycle and plan to do so again in 2020,” he said in a statement.

The jury remains out on whether or not Trump will reflect that same support… or endorse Abbot for re-election.

For George P. Bush, a politician with a name that was embarrassed in front of the GOP in 2016, he faces a major risk.
