Democratic leadership just did the unthinkable

The Democratic Party would have you believe that fighting racism is the most important issue on its plate—but not when it comes to its own members.

After a white Democrat leader made a racial slur about a black Republican, he tried to resign…but his party wouldn’t accept it.

Sen. Tim Scott, R-S.C., gave a devastating response to President Joe Biden’s address to Congress last month. Scott, the grandson of a black sharecropper, made liberals’ heads explode when he said, “America is not a racist country.”

Democrats were so outraged that they were determined to prove him wrong—by giving him a heaping helping of liberal racism.

Gary O’Connor, the white chairman of the Lamar County Democratic Party, called Sen. Scott a racial slur online.

“I had hoped that Scott might show some common sense, but it seems clear he is little more than an Oreo with no real principles,” O’Connor, who is a white male, wrote on Facebook.

An Oreo is a regular slur against black Republicans and conservatives: They’re supposed to be black on the outside but white on the inside—as if no black man could be anything but a Democrat.

Some people thought that was a weird slur for a white male to make. “O’Connor is insulting himself as a white dude, and then projecting that insult onto a black dude who disagrees with him,” wrote Jim Treacher at PJ Media.

The idea is racist, but it has deep roots in the Democratic Party—all the way up to the president.

Last May, presidential candidate Joe Biden told radio show host Charlamagne tha God, “I tell you if you have a problem figuring out whether you’re for me or Trump, then you ain’t black.”

At the time, Scott called Biden’s race-based political appeal the “most arrogant, outrageous comment that I’ve heard in a very long time.”

But after his successful rebuttal last month, the Democrats got their revenge.

Not only did O’Connor make his statements, but the term “Uncle Tim”—a version of the racist slur “Uncle Tom”—started trending on Twitter.

But Republicans noticed and, pretty soon, even O’Connor realized he’d gone too far.

Congressman Pat Fallon, R-Tex., who represents O’Connor’s part of Texas in the U.S. House of Representatives, called the Democrat’s comments “abhorrent, insulting, and unforgivable. Both he and the entire Lamar County Democratic Party should be ashamed of this racist behavior.”

Fallon said the Texas Democratic Party “should take swift action to censure him.”

After that blowback, even O’Connor said he felt “compelled” to resign as a leading Democratic Party official.

“I am deeply and sincerely sorry for my inappropriate and hurtful use of (the) racist term I used to describe Sen. Tim Scott on my personal Facebook page,” he told The Washington Examiner. “It was insensitive, and I have embarrassed myself and my party by its use.”

Unfortunately for him, the Democratic Party disagreed—and they decided they wouldn’t let him quit.

“Our local Democrats have taken the last few days to reflect upon this incident,” the Lamar County Democratic Party said in a press release. “After much discussion—especially among our local Black Democrats—we chose not to accept Mr. O’Connor’s resignation.”

His party said that, deep down, O’Connor didn’t really mean what he thought about, put into words, and typed out on Facebook.

O’Connor’s racist post was “incompatible with his core values,” the party said.

Instead of resigning, they let him get by with a public apology, which the county Democratic Party joined.

The party promised, from now on, its members would only speak “with anti-racist, pro-reconciling attitudes and language.”

Its members “strongly condemn bigotry of any kind and will continue our historic efforts to work for justice and equality for all our fellow citizens.”

At least one person isn’t buying it: the head of the Texas Republican Party.

“When you want to talk about institutionalized racism, when you want to talk about the systemic racism and the purveyors thereof—it’s the Democrat Party,” said Chairman Allen West. “They never voted for the 13th, 14th, and 15th Amendments. They are the party of Jim Crow. They’re the party of segregation, of slavery.”

And the racist history continues.

“They’re the party that sees independent thinking, black men and women as a threat,” West said.

“Stop calling everyone else white supremacists and racists and all of these other things,” West said. “You, the Lamar County Democrat Party, the Texas Democrat Party, you’re the real racists—and I despise you.”
