One of President Joe Biden’s very first moves as leader of the free world could come back to bite him.
Shortly after assuming office, Biden made it his mission to tear down any remaining policies from former President Donald Trump’s era.
This included putting a major freeze on congressional spending toward the border wall along the U.S.-Mexico line.
He demanded that construction stop immediately.
And nearly three months later a catastrophic border crisis is exhausting America’s resources. As a result, the Biden administration may pay dearly for intentionally neglecting the border.
Townhall reports that the president is under investigation by the Government Accountability Office (GAO).
The office is seeking to “determine whether the new president broke the law by freezing the money in violation of budget rules designed to keep Congress in control of the cash flow,” according to a federal watchdog.
The investigation has been spurred on by Senate Republicans, who last week made their case to the GAO in a letter.
In the letter, they placed blame on Biden for compromising the security and safety of America with his decision to freeze spending.
They also argued that Biden’s move impeded the congressional funds that had already been allocated toward border security purposes.
Republicans in the House joined, too, writing a letter of their own.
It is unknown whether or not Biden and his administration will face any real punishment, depending on the findings of the GAO. Politico noted that reprimand is unlikely — citing Trump similarly being investigated by the GAO for freezing aid to Ukraine.
Yet the border crisis rages on as the Biden administration struggles to contain the problem.
What the media once dubbed an “abhorrent, inhumane treatment of illegal immigrants” under the Trump regime has become “a complex humanitarian issue” under Biden.
