Bill O’Reilly clashes with unexpected foe

Conservative commentator Bill O’Reilly made an unexpected return to the headlines after clashing with cable news channel Newsmax TV.

Newsmax claimed O’Reilly was spreading “fake news” about their ratings during his recent show — and Newsmax contributor Andrew Giuliani fired back.

O’Reilly said Newsmax’s television numbers had plummeted since President Joe Biden was inaugurated.

Along with CNN, the upstart conservative news network had lost a huge amount of its viewership, O’Reilly said.

“Now we learn that Newsmax, the surging conservative cable channel, which added viewers because they disputed the election in Donald Trump’s favor, has lost 50% of its audience in February, last month – 50%,” O’Reilly said on his show, “No Spin News.”

Giuliani called the claim fake news.

He said O’Reilly’s numbers were pushed by competitors like Fox News and were intended to make Newsmax look bad.

“It’s just cherrypicked numbers from just a few days after the election, when of course most people are turning in to cable news, to the end of February, when there is going to be a small ratings fall – which you have seen across all news networks,” Giuliani said during the show “John Bachman Now.”

“Bill used to be the best at this; unfortunately, even the best pitchers lose their fastball. What Bill’s saying is just inaccurate and it’s cherry-picked,” he said. “He’s just flat out wrong when it comes to this.”

Host John Bachman then took time to point out that Newsmax did not contest or dispute the results of the 2020 election.

O’Reilly was highly critical of former President Donald Trump’s claims that massive voter fraud impacted the results of the 2020 presidential election. He has also repeatedly criticized Newsmax for broadcasting the claims of Trump surrogates.

It’s a remarkable turnaround for O’Reilly and Newsmax. In 2018, the two were in negotiations with the network for his own primetime show.

What are your thoughts?

Do you back O’Reilly, Newsmax… or neither?
