Trump’s return to Washington, D.C. (not what you’re thinking)

The return of Trump may come sooner than most voters think.

But it’s also not quite what the former president’s supporters would expect.

Lara Trump, the wife of Eric Trump and daughter-in-law to former President Donald Trump, just received a major endorsement in a potential political run.

There had already been some rumors and speculation surrounding Ms. Trump’s ambition.

And Sen. Lindsey Graham, R-S.C., just made a compelling case for Ms. Trump to be the next Republican Senator in North Carolina.

Graham has an interesting theory about why she would be the top candidate.

He told “Fox News Sunday” that the impeachment trial — which ended in Trump’s 2nd acquittal — was evidence that Lara Trump was the biggest winner of the entire proceeding.

… because North Carolina Sen. Richard Burr voted to convict Trump in the trial. Graham, like many other political insiders, know that Burr’s popularity in the state will suffer dramatically.

Burr was one of seven senators who voted to convict the former president.

He, like other Senators, have faced a backlash from conservative voters back home in their respective states.

Burr found himself censured by the North Carolina GOP unanimously.

So you can be sure there are some folks in his state who have a bone to pick with Burr.

Enter Lara Trump.

“My dear friend Richard Burr — who I like and have been friends to a long time,” Graham said, “just made Lara Trump almost the certain nominee for the Senate seat in North Carolina to replace him if she runs,” he said.

And he put his full support behind her.

“I’ll certainly be behind her because I think she represents the future of the Republican Party.”

Not only has Ms. Trump teased a political run in the state, she also has a history there. She was born in Wilmington, North Carolina, and attended North Carolina State.

So while it may not be the former president returning (yet!), the message is clear that Republican voters are still committed to finishing what Trump started.
