Ted Cruz betrays Trump (2024 move?)

Sen. Ted Cruz, R-T.X., went after former President Donald Trump and his most hardcore supporters this week — a stunning reversal from one of Trump’s most loyal allies in Washington, D.C.

Cruz said that Trump’s claims of voter fraud after the 2020 election were “reckless” and unprovable in court.

He also implied that Trump inflamed the anger that later caused the Capitol building riot on Jan. 6th.

Trump was impeached by the Democrat-led House of Representatives just one week later. He has been accused of inciting an insurrection.

Trump’s Senate trial begins next week — and Cruz isn’t rushing to Trump’s defense.

In an episode of his podcast Verdict with Ted Cruz, the senator had attacked the mainstream media because “their talking point is ‘there is no voter fraud’” in the 2020 presidential election.

But then, Cruz went on to say that Trump’s legal defense was poor and his rhetoric became dangerous.

“President Trump’s rhetoric I think went way, way too far over the line,” Cruz said.

“I think it was both reckless and irresponsible because he said repeatedly — he said over and over — that he ‘Won by a landslide. There was massive fraud. It was all stolen everywhere,'” he continued.

“That evidence? The campaign did not prove that in any court,” Cruz said. “And to make a determination about an election, it has to be based on the evidence.”

“And so, simply saying the result you want… that’s not responsible — and you’ve never heard me use language like that.”

“What I’ve said is: Voter fraud is real, and we need to examine the evidence and look at the actual facts,” Cruz continued. “In particular, what is the evidence on how much voter fraud occurred and did it occur in sufficient quantities … to alter the outcomes of the election.”

Looking forward, it’s not hard to guess why Cruz has turned against his former friend. Cruz is ambitious and is considered a frontrunner for the 2024 Republican presidential nomination. Trump has also not ruled out running for president again.
