House Speaker Nancy Pelosi is gracing headlines once again for frustrating a good number of her colleagues.
On the heels of the violent mob terrorizing the U.S. Capitol, unprecedented security measures have been put in place.
And the top Democratic lawmaker is promising hefty fines for anyone who refuses to comply with her new rules.
Even if it means fining her own fellow colleagues.
Some Republican lawmakers have expressed their displeasure about the new protocol and have been bypassing the metal detector entirely or walking through and not stopping when they set it off.
The Hill reports both Reps. Lauren Boebert, R-Colo., and Steve Womack, R-Ark., had their own respective standoffs with Capitol police since the new security measures have been put in place.
Boebert sounded off on Pelosi’s decision, dismissing it as party politics:
I am legally permitted to carry my firearm in Washington, D.C. and within the Capitol complex.
Metal detectors outside of the House would not have stopped the violence we saw last week — it’s just another political stunt by Speaker Pelosi.

Pelosi proposed fines of up to $10,000 to be imposed on members who fail to abide by the new security protocols of the House. The fine will be $5,000 for the first offense and $10,000 for the second offense. The Democratic-led House will vote on the rule change.
Pelosi says, “It is tragic that this step is necessary, but the Chamber of the People’s House must and will be safe.”
In a statement provided by Pelosi to announce to rule change, she said:
“On behalf of the House, I express my deepest gratitude to the U.S. Capitol Police for the valor that they showed during the deadly insurrection on the Capitol, as they protected the lives of the staff and the Congress.”
“Many House Republicans have disrespected our heroes by verbally abusing them and refusing to adhere to basic precautions.”
Earlier in the week, she imposed fines for those who fail to wear face masks during the COVID-19 crisis. Both fines will be deducted directly from members’ salaries.
