New York City has become everything short of a full-blown apocalypse amid national protests, riots and a global pandemic.
Perhaps the city’s most notable Democrat, Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, D-N.Y., seems all too happy to blame the city’s chaos on the police.
That’s right, the police.
“Keep in mind that this uptick in crime that’s happening right now is with a $6 billion New York City Police Department budget,” she told The Hill. “We have shoved more and more and more money into the NYPD. It has not prevented this uptick in crime.”
Forget the fact that New York City Mayor Bill De Blasio just approved a $1 billion NYPD budget cut — a move that AOC said didn’t go far enough.
Perhaps the uptick in crime is due to the idea that the rule of law in most liberal cities has disappeared — simply put — it’s becoming harder for the cops to protect and serve as violence surges in some of America’s most densely populated areas.
But of course she didn’t stop there: Her most recent comments saw her blame the city’s crime wave on the economy, too.
“Do we think this has to do with the fact that there’s record unemployment in the United States right now? The fact that people are at a level of economic desperation that we have not seen since the great recession?”
“Maybe this has to do with the fact that people aren’t paying their rent and are scared to pay their rent,” she added, “and so they go out and they need to feed their child and they don’t have money. So, you maybe have to — they’re put in a position where they feel like they either need to shoplift some bread or go hungry that night.”

Sure, it’s possible.
Many Americans are suffering right now as a result of the global pandemic shutting down nearly everything from schools to businesses.
There’s just one problem.
This is incomplete, New York Post writes, for many reasons — one being that NYC’s crime spike is in relation to homicides and other shootings. According to Jorge Fitz-Gibbon, the overall crime rate “has been trending down.”
It has nothing to do with starving citizens shoplifting for bread.
She must have America confused with socialist Venezuela, where residents actually had to steal bread to survive.
Instead, in New York City there’s just senseless violence.
And defunding the police, let alone a $1 billion NYPD budget cut, isn’t going to stop the carnage.
