Fox News: Donald Trump to drop out!?

Fox News made a stunning claim on Sunday: President Donald Trump may drop his bid for re-election sometime this summer.

According to Fox News senior correspondent Charles Gasparino, Republican insiders say, should polling gets worse, the president may forfeit his campaign against Democratic presidential candidate Joe Biden.

The Trump campaign called the report the “granddaddy of fake news” and said the president has never once considered dropping out.

“Everyone knows that media polling has always been wrong about President Trump –they undersample Republicans and don’t screen for likely voters — in order to set false narratives,” Trump campaign spokesman Tim Murtaugh told Fox News. “It won’t work. There was similar fretting in 2016 and if it had been accurate, Hillary Clinton would be in the White House right now.”

The New York Times made headlines last week when they released a poll they said had Trump down 14 points in a nationwide survey.

The Times poll results claimed Trump was down double-digits in some battleground states like Michigan and Pennslyvania, and traditionally safe Republican electoral college votes like Texas, Georgia, and North Carolina were classified as toss-up states.

The Trump campaign on Sunday denied the accuracy of the poll. They said internal polling shows Trump voters are “very enthusiastic” to cast a ballot in support of the president.

Biden’s supporters lack that same enthusiasm, an important factor in getting voters to the polls on election day.

“As was the case in 2016, the mainstream news media is relying on polling financed by their own operations and others, released publicly in order to set a narrative that conforms with their own worldviews,” the Trump campaign memo said.

“The president’s campaign has repeatedly called into question the validity of such polling, based on methodology, party representation in the sample, wording of questions, and other factors.”
