PGA golf is back? Phil Mickelson teases Tiger Woods showdown

Sports fanatics have been offered a moment of hope.

The global Wuhan virus pandemic has shuttered all major sporting events, casting a cloud of darkness over the world of athletic competition.

But PGA tour legends Phil Mickelson and Tiger Woods have a plan to restore some fun – if only for a day.

On his Twitter account, Mickelson teased that he had been working on a one-on-one exhibition match against Woods. It would be televised, Mickelson hinted.

The speculation was confirmed when a fan on the social media platform reached out to Mickelson, asking the left-handed golfer what the chance was that he and Woods “go play a round mic’d up with one camera guy and just put it out there on a stream for people to watch??”

“Working on it,” Mickelson responded cryptically.

But fans weren’t satisfied. They pressed him harder on the possibility that the two golf legends could fulfill the idea.

“Please don’t tease,” Twitter user Jon Blumenthal wrote.

“I don’t tease,” Mickelson responded. “I’m kinda a sure thing.”

Mickelson and Woods have previously squared off head to head as recently as 2018 in what was known as “The Match,” with Mickelson ultimately getting the better of Woods.

But the stakes could be raised this time around.

According to former Fox Sports correspondent Robert Lusetich, two NFL Hall of Famers to be –– Tom Brady and Peyton Manning –– could be involved in the match as well:

Hearing Tiger v Phil II might indeed be happening as a PPV event but that the caveat is that each will have a partner. Two names being mentioned? Tom Brady and Peyton Manning.

With nearly every other sporting event in limbo, the news was well-received around the world of sports. The NBA, NHL, March Madness are all on hiatus, among other sports leagues – at this point, one would have to imagine that even sports fans who don’t watch golf would tune in.

Add two Super Bowl-winning quarterbacks and the star-driven draw would likely be something that few sports fans would miss out on.

NBC Sports writes as recently as Mar. 30 that there are no details mentioned about specifics as for when the match may take place.
