House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, D-Calif., has faced heavy criticism for her role in holding up the coronavirus relief package in Congress. Critics say Pelosi held American taxpayers hostage to score a liberal wishlist.
Even CNN has started questioning Pelosi’s motives — and Pelosi was not happy about it.
During an interview with CNN’s chief political correspondent Dana Bash, Pelosi grew visibly angry and began yelling over a series of tweets by President Donald Trump regarding the economic stimulus and the timeline for recovery.
“The president has been hearing clearly from some conservatives, ‘The cure cannot be worse than the problem.’ The signal is that he could open up the economy again, because there’s a lot of pressure on him to do that,” Bash said.
“The flip side, I’m sure you’ve seen, is [Rep.] Liz Cheney, a top Republican in the House who has tweeted that, effectively, that’s not a good idea,” she continued.
Where do you stand and, more importantly, what is your message to the president about the timeframe here and what should lead: the economy or health care?” asked Bash.
“Well, there doesn’t have to be a contradiction there,” Pelosi replied. “Our economy will thrive when our people are well, and able to go back to work in groups, and collaborate on the enthusiasm that they have.
“And their entrepreneurial spirit or in the workplace, that they thrive and our children can go back to school,” she continued. “But central to all of that is stopping the spread of the disease, of coronavirus. It’s central to that.”
“So I don’t have time to follow people’s twits, tweets, tweeters, whatever, tweets,” Pelosi exclaimed. “So don’t expect me to comment on them!”
“Well, beyond Twitter, the president of the United States is saying that he could open it up…” Bash said.
“I don’t care!” snapped Pelosi, interrupting Bash’s question. “I don’t care! I don’t care! I don’t care!”
Pelosi said the president was “notion mongering” and not consulting scientists, and said “anyone with responsibility” should rely on science.
“I think the cure is the biggest message of hope that is out there. We have the best minds in the country, 24/7, all hands on deck, trying to find a path here. And that is what will be the light at the end of the tunnel,” she added.
“What the president is suggesting is that that light at the end of the tunnel could be a train coming at us if people are out and about in a way that spreads the disease further,” she added.
Pelosi then added that she didn’t want to “pick a fight with the president” during a crisis, so she doesn’t want to hear about his tweets.
“I’m too busy to be bothered about his tweets,” Pelosi concluded. “So that’s just it.”
