“Fox & Friends” star Brian Kilmeade shared a Fox News poll on impeachment with viewers Tuesday — and said he was “stunned” by the results.
Kilmeade started the segment discussing the failing support for impeachment among Democratic lawmakers.
“There were 31 Democrats who voted for Republicans against Bill Clinton,” Kilmeade said. “Now you have zero Republicans and you are looking at how many Democrats [switching]? Everyone is choosing to bury that part of this story—that’s how weak this impeachment case is!”
But a recent Fox News poll “stunned” him because their own pollsters claim voters are still pro-impeachment.
“The Fox News poll came out, and I was stunned by this, it says 50 percent of the country want the president impeached [and removed from office],” Kilmeade said to his co-hosts on Monday.
“I was stunned to see that that’s the number,” he continued. “I thought that things were trending away, although the president’s approval rating did tick up in the same poll, so it’s almost like a split personality!”
Kilmeade is correct that other recent polls show support for impeachment has sharply declined.
Additionally, voter support for President Donald Trump has increased — even according to the same Fox News poll that claimed impeachment support has increased, too.
The Fox News poll could easily be a data outlier.
CNN and other major pollsters have reported in recent weeks that impeachment support, especially among Democratic voters, has plummeted.
“Support for impeaching Trump and removing him from office stands at 45% in the new poll, down from 50% in a poll conducted in mid-November just after the conclusion of the House Intelligence Committee’s public hearings,” CNN’s Jennifer Agiesta reported Tuesday.
Opposition to impeachment and removal stands at 47% in the new poll, up from 43% in November,” Agiesta said. “Support for impeachment and removal among Democrats has dipped from 90% in November to 77% now.”
