Sen. Elizabeth Warren, D-Mass., “Medicare for all” fantasy just backfired on her politically.
President Donald Trump didn’t even have to touch this one.
Warren’s fellow Democrats and The New York Times all turned against the leading 2020 presidential candidate.
Saturday, Warren told reporters that her “Medicare for all” plan wouldn’t raise taxes on the middle class.
“… not paying a penny more,” she said.
“It doesn’t raise taxes on anybody but billionaires. And you know what? The billionaires can afford it,” Warren said.
“Understand this,” she said. “This is no increase in taxes for anyone except billionaires. Period. Done.”
Her lie was immediately called out.
2020 Democratic presidential candidates past and present have trashed the idea because of how unrealistic it is.
Former Vice President Joe Biden accused Warren of “hiding the simple truth” from voters.
2020 candidate Michael Bennett said the numbers are “simply not believeable.”
And Ross Douthat of The New York Times wrote that “no sane Democrat should want it as the centerpiece of their national campaign.”
Even Democrats are admitting Warren’s ideas are a fantasy.
