MSNBC host Chris Matthews has been missing from the airwaves.

In fact, he’s been gone for some time.

And on Monday his show’s interim host finally addressed his whereabouts. Matthews is fighting prostate cancer and is currently recovering from surgery.

“Chris is recovering from prostate cancer surgery last week,” Steve Kornacki told viewers at the end of Monday night’s show. “The procedure went well, but he’s taking a few days to get back into fighting shape.”

The last time he was seen on air was Oct. 4.

There is no official word out on when the “Hardball” host will return.

Marie McCullough, a staff writer of The Philadelphia Inquirer, writes that it takes men any time from six to eight weeks to recover from the removal of a prostate gland.

The 73-year-old Philadelphian has been a host on MSNBC for the past 20 years.
