“Offensive” Yale professor flees campus

A Yale University faculty member who sparked protests when she said students should be free to push boundaries with Halloween costumes, even to the point of offense, resigned from her teaching position, the school announced Monday.

Erika Christakis chose not to continue teaching in the spring semester, the university said on its website.

“Her teaching is highly valued and she is welcome to resume teaching anytime at Yale, where freedom of expression and academic inquiry are the paramount principle and practice,” the school said.

Christakis came under attack in October for her response to a request from the Intercultural Affairs Committee that students avoid wearing racially insensitive costumes, such as Native American headgear, turbans or blackface. She wrote in an email to students living in the residence hall where she’s an administrator that they should be able to wear any costume they want.

The Associated Press contributed to this article.

I guess the over sensitive libs are more concerned about “FEELING” smart than EDUCATION!!! We do not need to unnecessarily offend but we should NOT BE OFFENDED unnecessarily EITHER!! PC is killing this country as is ALL LIBERAL FEELINGS!!!!! A BRAIN is a terrible thing to waste!!!

Being politically correct is going to get us all killed. Where oh where has common sense gone? A costume is just that, a costume and whatever the costume is should not offend anyone with even half a brain.

Isn’t this sickening? Yet what is really bad is the “headline”, ” “Offensive” Yale professor flees campus”
When the truth is, ” Erika Christakis chose not to continue teaching in the spring semester (and) resigned from her teaching position, the school announced Monday.”

Horn News, get rid of these know-nothing, sensationalisn-at-any-price, “reporters”. Send them back to repeat “Journalism 101” and “Ethics 0.5” !! for crying out loud. If they want to practice their lib-speak, or, Obama-suckupiness make them do it somewhere else. It is not welcome here. Don’t stoop down to the lib-level. You won’t smell very good.

This professor has learned that in the 21st century you don’t have freedom of speech if it conflicts with certain ideologies.

As a University professor (University of Brasília, Brazil), I agree with Prof. Christakis: students should be allowed to wear thatever they want, according to the weather, provided they don’t go around naked. Gone are the days when one would have to wear a full suit and necktie to go to class, even on Summertime.
