Trump: My biggest mistake as president was…

President Donald Trump doesn’t express regret very often — so when he revealed the greatest regret of his presidency on Sunday, it made headlines.

Trump says the biggest mistake of his first term was the appointment of former Attorney General Jeff Sessions.

Appearing on NBC’s “Meet the Press,” Trump was asked if there was anything he’d change about his first two years in office.

“If you could have one do-over as president, what would it be?” NBC News’s Chuck Todd asked.

“Well, it would be personnel. I would say if I had one do-over, it would be: I would not have appointed Jeff Sessions to be attorney general,” Trump said.

“In your mind, that’s your biggest mistake?” Todd asked.

“Yeah. That was my biggest mistake,” Trump responded.

Todd then asked about Attorney General William Barr and his relationship with Trump.

“Is Bill Barr your Roy Cohn?” Todd asked, referencing Trump’s former personal lawyer and mentor known for his no-nonsense approach to the law.

“You’ve got to understand, I’ve had many, many lawyers. Roy was one of them, he was a tough guy,” Trump responded. “Bill Barr is very… he’s equally tough.”

“He’s a fine man,” Trump said of Barr. “The job he’s done is incredible. He’s brought sanity back. I think… actually, I don’t think: I know that he’s respected.”

“He loves the Department of Justice. He saw what was happening, and he’s done a spectacular job,” Trump said.

The president went on to say that he leaves Barr to his work, but thinks that Barr recognizes the so-called “witch hunt” against Trump and his political allies was “very bad for this country.”
