James Comey appeared before Congress on Friday and admitted that the FBI wiretapped President Donald Trump’s 2016 presidential campaign — and two words from the disgraced former FBI director exploded like a landmine in the room.
According to official transcripts of the Comey’s testimony released on Saturday, he told Congress it was “not necessary” for him to verify the info they’d been fed on former Trump campaign aide Carter Page was true.
We’ve since learned that the report was authored by a foreign spy, Christopher Steele, and was funded in part by the presidential campaign of Hillary Clinton.
Comey admitted he never bothered to check. Once he had the information from the Democrats, he authorized the FBI — under former President Barack Obama — to begin spying on Trump and his team.
“I think I’ve dealt with warrants where you just identify that your primary [confidential informant], or primary source, has subsources, and so long as the court is aware of that phenomenon and that you’re speaking to the reliability of the primary source, to my mind, that’s a totally legit warrant application,” Comey told lawmakers, according to the transcript.
The information the Steele dossier contained has since been proven to be inaccurate and unverified.
“The FBI obtained four Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act (FISA) warrants to spy on Page, the first having been granted on Oct. 21, 2016. Comey signed off on three of the FBI applications, though he appeared unaware in his testimony of key details of the information included in the documents,” The Daily Caller reported.
“The FBI’s chief of the counterintelligence division, Bill Priestap, also told the House Intelligence Committee that validation of the dossier was in its ‘infancy’ when the bureau used it in the FISA application,” The Daily Caller wrote.
In other words, Comey ordered the wiretapping of a Republican presidential candidate — on behalf of a Democratic president…
With no proof. And no probable cause.
And he didn’t bother waiting around to verify any of the accusations.
And then the mainstream media wonders why Trump calls it a politically motivated “witch hunt”?
