On Tuesday, NBC host Megyn Kelly ripped into Sen. Elizabeth Warren for releasing her DNA test results that showed she is less than two percent Native American.
Kelly mocked Warren for relying on the results to prove that she is a minority, and said that being “one out of 1,024 … does not allow you to say you’re a Cherokee.”
Discussing the DNA results with a panel, Kelly argued that President Donald Trump should not keep to his promise of donating $1 million to a charity after Warren’s DNA test because she did not really prove she is Native American.
Trump previously stated that he would donate $1 million to a charity of Warren’s choice if she could prove through a DNA test that she is Native American, and NBC News correspondent Jacob Soboroff asked Kelly if she thought Trump should pay up.
“I don’t think he does, because you know why? If you look at what he said, he said I’ll make the donation if you prove that you’re an Indian. That’s to quote him,” Kelly responded. “Did Elizabeth Warren just prove that she’s an Indian? Did she?”
“American Ninja Warrior” host Matt Iseman noted that even with her test results reveal, Warren did not pull a “slam dunk.”
“It’s not even close to a slam dunk,” Kelly shot back. “She scored on herself! She scored a goal against herself!”
NBC correspondent Morgan Radford went on to argue that “acknowledging who you are isn’t using who you are.”
But Kelly slapped down that comment by saying, “It is when you are touted as the first Native American professor at Harvard Law School and you’re not Native American,” adding that it is “not enough” for Warren just to think she is Native American.
“Elizabeth Warren is out there representing that she’s got a heritage that at best is probably similar to most Americans in this country, none of whom check the box,” Kelly concluded.
