The 18-year-old California university freshman who went on rampage with a hunting knife this week had a disturbing master plan.
He was going to capture hostages, ambush and brutually murder cops, and then use their weapons to start shooting — all because he was barred from a study group, authorities said.
Merced County Sheriff Vern Warnke said a two-page “manifesto” detailing Faisal Mohammad’s motive and plans to terrorize and kill several classmates at the University of California, Merced was found on his body Thursday during his autopsy.
Campus police shot and killed Mohammad after the teen stabbed two students, a university employee and a construction contractor shortly after 8 a.m. PST Wednesday on the rural campus in the farm-rich San Joaquin Valley, 120 miles south of Sacramento. The four victims are all expected to survive.
Mohammad’s plan for revenge discussed his anger with being kicked out of the study group, the sheriff said.
Warnke said Mohammad’s plan was written in English and referenced the Muslim god Allah several times, where he detailed the plot to use plastic ties to bind the hands of his classmates to their desks in his Wednesday morning class. He was then going call police with a fake distress call and ambush responding officers with a hunting knife and steal their guns. He planned to use the guns to shoot a list of students he named, including those in his study group.
The sheriff said Mohammad was born in the United States. He said investigators didn’t find any evidence of mental illness.
Following his rampage, an ISIS-affilated Twitter account praised the knife attack.
Mohammad began his rampage by attacking a fellow student with a knife in a required general education course Wednesday morning. Byron Price, 31, a construction worker doing remodeling next door, ran into the classroom and is credited with preventing Mohammad from killing his initial stabbing victim.
Price said he thought he was breaking up a fistfight when Mohammad charged at him with the knife, stabbing him in the side.
“His eyes, I could see fear in his eyes,” Price told the Merced Sun Star. He was smiling.”
Mohammad fled the room and stabbed two others— one in a stairway, the other on bench outside— before police shot him on a nearby pedestrian bridge.
Police found zip-tie handcuffs, duct tape and a hammer in a backpack near his body. It also contained two plastic baggies of petroleum jelly, which Warnke called a “poor’s man” explosive if ignited.
“We had zero to indicate he was on anyone’s radar,” Warnke said.
Investigators also found a list of items Mohammad planned to pack in his backpack before the attacks.
“His intention was to do more damage,” UC-Merced spokeswoman Lorena Anderson said.
A high school buddy in Santa Clara, California expressed shock that Mohammad stabbed four people.
“He was quiet, but he was really friendly,” Ish Patel said. “He was intelligent, too — he performed well academically.”
Patel said Mohammad enjoyed basketball, going to the mosque to pray and playing video games with his friends. He lost contact with Mohammad after they graduated from high school in June.
But Mohammad’s suitemate at college paints a portrait of an anti-social loner. Andrew Velasquez told KSFN-TV in Fresno that Mohammad kept to himself.
“(Mohammad) didn’t talk much. And I never saw him walk with anybody. Walking to class, I never saw him walk with anybody,” Velasquez said.
One student remained hospitalized Thursday, and a staff member who suffered a collapsed lung was recovering after surgery, the school said. Price and a second student were treated and released.
Classes the university’s 6,700 students were scheduled to resume Friday.

I am a retired L.E.O. chief and I appreciate your comment. There are very few people that have a realistic understanding of what a good LEO goes through on a day to day basis. I don’t think his comment was meant as an insult to the police. It was meant as a statement of fact. The cops can’t be everywhere . By outlawing concealed carry on campus you are in effect creating a low risk, target rich environment. There are attacks on campus because they are assured that no one will likely be able to fight back. It makes no difference if they are attacking with a gun, knife, axe, machete or a bat. You are right. However the parents got to this country in the first place is questionable. (legal or illegal). Only the Gov. knows. College is not like high school. Some people have a hard time making the adjustment. It sounds like this guy would fit into that category. Maybe police should talk to members of the study group. They can probably shed light on why he was ousted from the group.
This is interesting. You notice that his high school friends said he was quiet, but a good guy. All of a sudden, when he gets into college, he is described by a classmate as sullen and withdrawn and he goes totally psychotic. Something happened to this PoS after high school or just when he entered college. In spite of our justified outrage, we could ask ourselves a few questions: How does a person degenerate from being peaceful and friendly (albeit solitary) from being hate-filled and soulless? Who was he is contact with in the months leading up to this? Why was he kicked out the study group? Could we have been forewarned by recognizing disturbing behavior patterns prior to this point in time? \what drug(s), prescription or otherwise, could he have taken?

1. His high school friend’s last name is Patel. That name is common in India and Pakistan. Many people who come from these countries are of the Muslim religion. In the Quo’ran, Muslims are expected to ‘lie to infidels, but never lie to a fellow Muslim’. Following that line of thinking, would mean that PERHAPS fellow friend Patel was lying to the reporter in saying that the stabber (Faisal Mohammad) was friendly and normal in character, back when he knew him.
2. Notice his current roommate has a typical Hispanic (Velasquez) based name. Unlikely to be Muslim. His perception of “FM” is that he was anti-social – 180 degrees different than what Patel claimed.
I agree that there is extreme bias in the main street media, no doubt funded and encouraged by someone or something that wants these loose cannons to operate with minimal damage to the Quo’ran and it’s evil propaganda.
