President Donald Trump has just made the most daring threat against a mainstream media outlet yet — and it seems he wants the American people to weigh in.
Is it time to revoke NBC News’ broadcast license for pushing a liberal agenda?
Trump posed the question on Wednesday morning after NBC News published a story from an anonymous source that claimed he wanted a “tenfold” increase in the nuclear arsenal.
Trump said the story was false and tweeted —
Fake @NBCNews made up a story that I wanted a "tenfold" increase in our U.S. nuclear arsenal. Pure fiction, made up to demean. NBC = CNN!

When asked about the situation at the White House, Trump said, “The press should speak more honestly. I’ve seen tremendously dishonest press. It’s not even a question of distortion. Like the question that was just asked before about 10 times the nuclear capability.”
“I know the capability we have, believe me, and it is awesome. It is massive. So when they make up stories like that, that’s just made up, and the generals will tell you that,” Trump said. “And then they have sources that don’t exist, the don’t exist. They make up the sources. There are no sources.”
Trump and the mainstream media have had a contentious relationship since the Inauguration.
In May, the president called NBC News and the rest of the liberal media the “enemy of the American people” for pushing what he called fake news stories as fact.
NBC News Chairman Andrew Lack replied at the time that the president’s attacks wouldn’t deter his organization.
“We’re not the opposition party and we’re not in a popularity contest with this administration or any other administration,” said Lack, who supervises NBC’s broadcast news and digital properties, including MSNBC.
NBC News has scrambled to absorb the results of an election that the network, like many other news organizations, got wrong, he said. The network “relied too much on polls” that were repeatedly accused of having a liberal bias.
If their FCC broadcast license were revoked, it would be illegal for NBC News to broadcast their television network in America.
