Finally! GOP to kill Russia investigation?

The investigation into President Donald Trump’s campaign’s ties with with Russia has been a controversial topic for months. With little new information coming to light, some Republicans are starting to wonder, is this a waste of taxpayer money?

Rep. Ron DeSantis from Florida thinks it is, and now he’s making moves to cut it’s funding.

He has put forward a provision that would halt funding for (Special Counsel Robert) Mueller’s probe six months after the amendment’s passage. It also would prohibit Mueller from investigating matters that occurred before June 2015, when Trump launched his presidential campaign,” according to Politico.

The amendment will be taken into consideration next week when the House returns from their August recess.

In describing his provision, DeSantis said the order appointing Mueller as special counsel, “didn’t identify a crime to be investigated and practically invited a fishing expedition.”

While Mueller’s investigation may soon come to an end– newly emerged information sheds a fresh light on the actual purpose of the entire thing.

Sources told NBC News, that the investigation in fact has a very specific focus: Donald Trump Jr.

NBC reported Monday that the current focus of the investigation is if Trump had any role in covering up the controversial meeting between Trump Jr. and Russian Nationals in June 2016.

According to one source, Mueller is particularly interested if Trump knowingly lied about the meeting. “Even if Trump is not charged with a crime as a result of the statement, it could be useful to Mueller’s team to show Trump’s conduct to a jury that may be considering other charges.”

Even though it has been said time and time again that nothing of note was revealed in Trump Jr.’s meeting, the special counsel seems determined to dig up dirt.

Mueller is currently seeking information from Trump’s former campaign manager Paul Manafort and former senior national adviser Mike Flynn, according to NBC News and the Wall Street Journal.

But it looks like the whole thing could soon come to an end anyway, and remove what Trump has referred to as a distraction from larger issues.
