Ever since the European Union leaders opened their borders, Islamic terror attacks have been on the rise.
Thursday, a radical Islamist brutally murdered an innocent person with a machete at a supermarket Friday in the northern German city of Hamburg and wounded four others as he fled, police said.
He was arrested after being subdued by the crowd of angry locals.
The assailant entered the supermarket in the Barmbek district on Friday afternoon and stabbed one person, who died at the scene, police said. As he fled, he wounded another four people.
He was overwhelmed by passers-by and slightly injured in the process, police said. Officers then arrested the man, who was reported to have shouted “Allahu Akbar” — a jihadist battle-cry that roughly translates to ‘Our God is Greatest’ — during his unprovoked rampage.
Police spokesman Timo Zill said authorities are investigating all options in the attack, which was carried out with a ‘large knife’, the news agency dpa reported. Other media outlets have reported the weapon was a machete.
Barmbek is in northeastern Hamburg.
