Rand Paul targets Paul Ryan over healthcare

The GOP is divided over President Donald Trump’s latest plan to repeal and replace former President Barack Obama’s health plan. While some senators have expressed criticism, it’s Senator Rand Paul making the biggest waves.

Paul just SLAMMED the plan — and he’s blaming Speaker Paul Ryan for it’s flaws.

In an interview with Breitbart Wednesday, Paul accused Ryan of providing Trump with misleading information in terms of passing the new bill, saying Ryan is, “trying to pull the wool over the eyes of the president.”

Paul believes Ryan is forcing repeal and replace into one bill, when “it would be better for all of us if we separated it out with clean repeal and had replacement as a separate bill.”

“We are pretty much united on repeal, but we have different ideas on replace,” Paul told Breitbart.

Calling the bill “Obamacare Lite” Paul identified four main problems with the bill: the creation of an entitlement program, poor handling of taxes, keeping the individual mandate, and keeping the risk corridors just under the disguise of a different name.

And Paul isn’t alone in his criticism.

The House Freedom Caucus, a group of over 40 House conservatives, has been vocal in their opposition to the plan before it was even presented.

Despite Rand Paul and fellow conservatives opposition, Ryan remains confident the bill will make it to Trump’s desk.

House Republicans scored a pre-dawn triumph Thursday in their effort to scuttle Obamacare.

After nearly 18 hours of debate and over two dozen party-line votes, Republicans pushed legislation through the Ways and Means Committee abolishing the tax penalty Obama’s statute imposes on people who don’t purchase insurance and reshaping how millions of Americans buy medical care.

It was a victory of high symbolism because Obama’s so-called individual mandate is perhaps the part of the statute that Republicans most detest.
