Santa Claus might not be appearing in some schools and classrooms in Oregon – but it looks like the kids there have already met another classic Christmas character.
They’ve come face-to-face with a real-life Grinch… and he’s trying to STEAL their Christmas!
The Grinch is the Hillsboro School District, which is desperately trying to backtrack after going viral thanks to an ugly attempt to ban Santa Claus.
“You may still decorate your door or office if you like, but we ask that you be respectful and sensitive to the diverse perspectives and beliefs of our community and refrain from using religious-themed decorations or images like Santa Claus,” a memo on school décor read.
Now, the district is claiming that the jolly old elf hasn’t been banned, even though that’s exactly what it sounds like from the statement.
And while they titled their new statement “Hillsboro School District Not Banning Santa,” it’s pretty clear Santa isn’t exactly welcome in the district, either.
Sounds like some folks are going to get coal in their stockings!
If Santa wasn’t banned, the district could come right out with a clear statement saying teachers and students are free to decorate with images of the beloved Kris Kringle.
Instead, they issued the weakest little memo you’ll ever see.
“We have no policies or directives around this issue,” the district claimed.
Instead, they want teachers “to create inclusive and welcoming spaces for all of our students” including those from different faiths who consider holiday-based images to be “a direct affront to them.”
That’s right.
Santa is a “direct affront” to some kids.
If a Jewish, Hindu or Muslim kid is so offended by Santa that he no longer feels welcomed, the Hillsboro School District has failed them… because these children will be woefully unprepared for setting foot outside, visiting just about any store, turning on the TV or listening to the radio this time of year.
But this isn’t truly about making these kids more comfortable. For better or for worse, Santa has been a secular symbol for years now, and kids of all faiths often believe in him.
This is really just another attack on Christians in school where they are hiding behind the veil of separation of church and state – despite the fact that the Supreme Court ruled in 1984 that it’s perfectly legal to have Santa and other Christmas symbols in classrooms.
It’s the War on Christmas, and the innocence of childhood is just the latest casualty.
Parents are rightfully livid.
“I’m from that generation where we believe in Santa, and my kids believe in Santa, and they should be able to celebrate it,” one parent told local news station KATU.
Apparently, in today’s schools, what you believe in doesn’t matter – they’re going to celebrate something else instead.
And Santa’s not invited to this party.

Yes, about 4-5 county’s around Portland control the state and yes they are liberal enclaves. The remaining 30-31 county’s are normal. I’m so tired of teachers being blamed for everything. Don’t people know that most if it rolls down from administration! We need to start at the top and get rid of some crazy administrators in our school systems, teachers don’t have that much power – think about it. Our national holidays are OURS and Christmas is a big one. When I was growing up Jewish kids said Merry Christmas and no-jewish also wished their classmates who celebrated Hanukkah a “Happy Honnukkah”. Schools taught tolerance for all our holidays even if no one believed in the Easter Bunny or Santa, everyone went along with the spirit & celebration & didn’t ruin it for the younger children. This is crazy schools want to silence, bash & ruin holiday spirit for majority for sake of a few foreigners who might be sensitive! Get these people away from our children! I wrote an email to the author of the article in the Oregonian. She promptly replied. It was incredible! What do these people think? I told her that her message is all over the world and I’m embarrassed for Americans in Oregon. Hopefully, we can split our state off from those liberals, somehow. We don’t need ‘um.
Saint Nicholas has an interesting background for anyone who cares to check it out. A wealthy merchant in a small town in Anatolia (modern Turkey) used to toss small leather pouches of coins into the property of the poor. He was an early Christian. This is not surprising as many cultures have a tradition of giving alms to the poor. The merchant kept his gifts a secret by the way he delivered his quiet donations to those in need.
On the back of our money you will find the words “In God We Trust”. Why do non-Christians want money that says that? I live in Louisiana and I am a Parish Santa and to date I have not been banned from anyplace and have been invited to City Hall to read Christmas stories to the Children.
