[Health Alert] Major food recall

Some varieties of Sabra hummus are being recalled amid concerns over possible listeria contamination.

The Food and Drug Administration says the voluntary recall announced by Sabra Dipping Co. includes hummus products with a “best before” date of Jan. 23, 2017, or earlier. The products were sent to retailers in the U.S. and Canada.

The FDA says listeria was identified at the manufacturing facility, but not in the finished product.

Sabra says no illnesses have been reported.

Sabra’s organic hummus, salsa, guacamole and Greek yogurt dips are not included in the recall.

Listeria concerns also prompted Sabra to recall about 30,000 cases of hummus last year. The bacteria can be deadly for young children, frail people and the elderly.

The Associated Press contributed to this article.

We need to seriously consider to revert back somewhat to an Aquarian society… meaning growing our own, like we used to do. This might also be a way to get children off of their social media devices that do more harm than good. It is really a simple matter for anyone, especially when children bad mouth in ways that would be unheard of 20 years ago and made easy because they do not have to see these people face to face! One might say that this behavior is the “National Enquirer” on steroids! I apologize for the digression and getting off point.

By “growing our own” we have control over the food supply and not depend upon technology and the government to fully protect us. The phrase is “self-responsibility” and seems to be a non-sequitur these days. One cannot eat electronic gadgets or any of the trash that pervades the Internet on a daily basis. So why not take some time out for the sake of our families and humanity in general, to have a small garden.

Backyard gardens are not rocket science, but there are principals and guidelines one must be aware of, in order to avoid the so-called “drudgery of gardening”. I have been in this particular practice since 1988 and made some rather starling discoveries along the way, for which I have written a book titled, “Growing Your Own Groceries”. It is far more than just an off the shelf book on gardening, because it includes what might be considered is a lifestyle change and also includes what many might be fearful of… “soil science”. However, as technical and complex as soil science may be, it can easily be applied to any small garden or large farm. Yes, the technical aspects are in this book, but only there for those who enjoy proof to what it is all about.

This book is nearly ready for publication and will be available at http://www.createspace.com very soon in the electronic version and some weeks thereafter will be in Amazon in the print version as well.

Don’t be sorry. You bring up great points that I agree with. Want to get angry? Monsanto. Just a bad joke. I’d be interested in the book, although Dec. 31 the dollar crashes. We should go back to non geo food. Somewhere I read Epsom salts are good for soil, but simultaneously are they good for the food that grows? I’m into this too, but obviously not as much as you are.
