A New Hampshire man convicted of gunning down a Manchester police officer 40 years ago at age 15 has been granted parole.

Cleo Roy has been serving a 50-year sentence for shooting Officer Ralph Miller as the officer approached his house to investigate a noise complaint, which stemmed from a teenage drinking party Roy was holding in his parents’ absence.

Miller was 25 and a Navy veteran with one year on the force when he was shot and killed. He had a 3-year-old daughter, and his wife was pregnant with their second child. They had moved into a new home days before the shooting.

The state granted parole to the 55-year-old Roy on Tuesday. He will undergo a transition period to develop the skills and support necessary to re-enter society.

What?? This cop killer has been living on our tax money for 40 years? He should have been given the same
chance he gave the police officer. One shot in the head. A life for a life. U.S. justice is out of control.
If you are old enough to point a gun at another person and fire it, you are old enough to be executed.
Sorry, liberals, but the death penalty would work if it was applied swiftly, not after 17 yrs on death row.
A couple of years ago in China, a young man driving a BMW (his parents car), ran over a woman at 4 AM.
He went back to check on her, she was still moving, he got a knife and killed her.Three weeks later. he was
executed. Not too many hit and run incidents since.

Not particularly sympathetic to this guy, but the 8th Amendment has been held to prevent the execution of juvenile killers. 3 year olds have shot parents and siblings, you would execute anyone old enough to pull the trigger?

No, but he/she wouldn’t be turned out into our neighborhoods, either.

“He will undergo a transition period”? Don’t you think that after 40 years they would have gave him a transition period before letting him out of prison? If he can not be trained or make the transition then what happens? He goes out and steals and maybe shoots someone else. He killed a Police Office for just waking up to his front door. This man took a life, and should never receive a parol.
