For one day, a mother says she didn’t have to worry about her son eating lunch by himself after he was joined by Florida State University wide receiver Travis Rudolph.

News outlets report a photo capturing Rudolph and sixth-grader Bo Paske having lunch Tuesday at Tallahassee’s Montford Middle School is being circulated on social media.

Rudolph was among several football players visiting the school to meet with students when he saw Bo by himself at a table in the lunch room and asked if he could sit with him.

He says the two had a great conversation, calling Bo a “cool” person whom he’d hang out with any day.

Leah Paske was moved to tears and says she’s grateful for the kindness Rudolph showed her son, who has autism and often eats lunch alone.

I think that what Travis did is absolutely fantastic. I know all too well how it feels to be ignored while in Junior High school or High school. I had to go through Jr. High and High school with undiagnosed Tourette syndrome, OCD and ADHD. I was avoided like I had the plague.

The kind of character that Mr. Rudolph shows is what I hope my child has. This world needs an awful lot more of it.

Hats off to you young man.

What a great way to show a kind heart. I’m sure that you made one little guy fee that he was the most important person in the lunch room, and only because you have a caring big heart. I would hope that my own son and grandson would be as caring. I have never been a great fan of Florida State Football, because I follow the Missouri Tigers, but I will say that Travis Rudolf has made me a personal fan of him.

If this statement is true, what does it say about the school and the need to encourage understanding and compassion for Bo if he suffers from autism? The teachers should follow Travis’ example and seek out children like him and sit with them during lunch and encourage children to join them.
