Greatest of all time? There is no doubt now.

US Olympic swimmer Michael Phelps captured his record-shattering 22nd Olympic gold medal with Thursday’s 200 IM victory. Even more impressive, it was Phelps’ 13th individual gold medal win — which breaks a 2,168 year old record of individual Olympic gold medals set by Leonidas of Rhodesia in 152 B.C.

It is Leonidas of Rhodes (an ancient Greek city-state) whereas Rhodesia was a state in south-central Africa until communists took control turning it into Zimbabwe. Perhaps a bit more of those “boring classics” would have been more helpful than anopther round of beer pong.

Rhodes is an island in the Aegean sea. It is part of the country of Greece. As I said in another comment, “Who writes this garbage and where they obtain their educations?!?!!?”

You are correct. It is an island North East of Crete and South of Turkey

Phelps is great fun to watch in the water. A colossal triumph. Records impossible to break. Phelps out of the water? Not so much fun. He is a true drama queen and totally self absorbed. His laughing spree during the ceremony was nauseating. How will he conduct himself without swimming in his life? When he is no longer the center of the universe? Difficult days ahead? Hopefully not. That will be interesting to watch.

Who writes this garbage!!! What kind of education do they receive?!?!?! Medals–gold, silver, bronze–WERE NOT awarded in the ancient Olympic games. The prize was a laurel-wreath crown and there was no such thing as second or third place. The games were a festival to honor Zeus, considered the king of the gods. There were also very strict rules for the competitors. Most of today’s olympians would probably be disqualified.

Not knowing the difference between Rhodes and Rhodesia, is the winning ticket to obtain a ‘modern day’ PHD. (That’s the abbreviation for a Pin Headed Doctor.) It allows one to be a journalist.
