Beloved Maine landmark to be removed

A landmark in Maine where thousands of people have pledged their everlasting love to another with padlocks has been deemed a public safety risk and will be removed.

The Portland Press Herald reports the city’s 30-foot-long Love Locks fence will be removed in the next two weeks but a portion will be displayed in a nearby parking lot.

People attach padlocks to the fence, viewed as a symbol of love like one removed in Paris. The city-owned fence is near Portland Harbor and has been sagging under the weight of hundreds of locks.

City spokeswoman Jessica Grondin says a portion of the chain link fence came loose from its frame about two weeks ago.

The replacement fence won’t allow locks to be attached to it.

The Associated Press contributed to this article.

And I’ll bet there is a small store close to Portland Harbor that has sold hundreds/thousands of locks? Stupid people are customers, too.

The fence would not be sagging,
If they removed all the locks that ended in divorse.

Hopefully the scrap value of the locks will pay for a large part of the fence’s replacement cost.

Robert good thinking, when a relationship fails divorce, breakup, separation, etc the love birds that were so proud of their feeling for each other should have the same pride and feelings to return to the fence and remove their token of everlasting love for one an other. Perfect makes good sense maybe that is the problem, too practical for todays youth.

Save for this comment by Robert, methinks that the words ‘practical and youth’ more than likely will never be seen together again.

I agree with Robert, funny but true.
